The Seychelles Minister for Transport, Ports and Civil Aviation, Veronique Laporte, has undertaken an official visit to Mauritius to review the operation of electric buses, as Seychelles continues to assess sustainable public transport options.

The minister was accompanied by Geffy Zialor, Chief Executive Officer of the Seychelles Public Transport Corporation (SPTC).

The visit took place at an electric bus depot in Rose Hill. The delegation observed how electric buses are integrated into daily operations. The programme covered fleet management, charging infrastructure and the use of solar energy generated on site to support daily operations.

Officials involved in the visit said the objective was to examine practical implementation and operational challenges. The discussions also covered solutions currently in use, with relevance to possible future deployment in Seychelles.

The delegation was received by the company’s chief executive, Dr. Sidharth Sharma. It also met with Group Head of Operations Ravindra Goburdhun and members of the technical team.

The discussions were technical and focused on real-world operations, including system performance, infrastructure requirements and day-to-day management of electric buses. The visit also provided an opportunity to exchange technical information and review how sustainable public transport systems function in practice.

The engagement formed part of ongoing efforts to gather operational insights relevant to the development of electric mobility solutions for public transport in Seychelles.
