One of the Seychelles Hospital’s senior nurses has received notice that the government will terminate her employment contract before its scheduled end date.
Dr Gyllian Mein received a letter from the Public Sector Commission, dated 13 July 2026, informing her that her contract as a Public Sector Commission employee will end on 17 July 2026. The letter states that the termination follows Clause 7 of her contract.
The contract was due to expire on 23 February 2027.
According to the letter, Dr Mein will receive her salary and accrued leave up to 16 July. She will also receive two months’ basic salary in lieu of notice, a pro-rata 13th month salary, and a pro-rated end-of-contract payment. In addition, the letter instructs her to complete the handover process.
Margaret Moumou, Secretary of State for Cabinet Affairs and Head of the Civil Service, signed the letter on behalf of the Public Sector Commission. The commission addressed the letter to Dr Mein through the Principal Secretary for Health.
The letter does not give a reason for the early termination. It states only that the contract will end in accordance with Clause 7 of the Public Sector Commission contract.
Dr Mein became the first Seychellois nurse practitioner to receive a Doctor of Nursing Practice degree with distinction from Chamberlain University in Illinois, United States. She also holds a nursing degree and a Master’s degree in Midwifery and Women’s Health from Lancashire University. She joined the nursing profession in 1982.
