President Herminie Commends Coast Guard for Destroying Intercepted Iranian Dhow

Iranian Dhow intercepted during a recent counter-narcotics operation

President of the Republic and Commander-in-Chief of the Seychelles Defence Forces, Dr. Patrick Herminie, has praised the Seychelles Coast Guard for the successful destruction of an Iranian dhow intercepted during a recent counter-narcotics operation.

The dhow, which had six crew members on board, was intercepted five days prior to its destruction on Monday, November 3, 2025. Acting in line with the Government’s reinforced “Search and Destroy” policy, both the confirmed illicit narcotics and the vessel were destroyed at sea. The crew members have since been handed over to local authorities for further investigation.

“I commend the Seychelles Coast Guard for their exemplary execution of this critical operation,” said President Herminie. “The destruction of this dhow and its illicit cargo sends a clear message to drug traffickers that Seychelles will not tolerate the use of our waters for criminal enterprise.”

Under the new operational protocols, all narcotics intercepted within Seychelles’ maritime domain are to be destroyed at sea rather than brought ashore. This measure aims to eliminate the risk of contamination and underscores the Government’s firm zero-tolerance approach toward drug trafficking.
