Newly Appointed Ministers Begin Familiarisation Visits

On Friday, 7 November, Seychelles’ newly appointed ministers undertook a series of familiarisation visits as they settled into their roles.Kalsey Belle, Minister for Youth and Sports, met with the management team of the Seychelles National Youth Council (SNYC) for an introductory session.

The SNYC described the meeting on its social media page as “setting a positive tone for continued collaboration and a shared vision.” In a post, the Council added: “We look forward to working closely together to empower, inspire, and amplify the voices of our young people across Seychelles.”

Meanwhile, Minister for Employment and Human Resource Planning, Idith Alexander, held her first official meeting with the Ministry’s executive leadership at Independence House. Discussions focused on setting the strategic direction for her tenure, with key initiatives planned for the first 100 days. These include reintroducing the 13th month salary from January 2026, boosting youth productivity and entrepreneurship, reinstating the Unemployment Relief Scheme, revitalising the My First Job Scheme, and supporting school dropouts and young entrepreneurs.

Minister Alexander also outlined her vision for strengthening the Ministry’s role in national development, highlighting collaboration, innovation, and responsiveness to labour market needs, while reviewing ongoing projects and workforce development programmes aligned with the government’s socio-economic agenda.

Eveline Rose, Minister for Local Government and Inner Islands, also held an introductory meeting with her Ministry’s Extended Management Team. The session allowed the Minister and her team to get acquainted, establish a positive working relationship, and set expectations for the months ahead. Rose was presented with a bouquet of flowers as a welcome gesture and expressed optimism about fostering a collaborative approach to advancing the Ministry’s mission.

The Ministry of Tourism and Culture welcomed its new Minister, Amanda Bernstein, on the same day. Minister Bernstein met with the Permanent Secretary for Culture, Cecile Kalebi, and the Permanent Secretary for Tourism, Sherin Francis, who joined remotely, as well as senior ministry staff at the Botanical House. She later addressed the wider ministry team.

In her first team meeting, Minister Bernstein expressed appreciation for the staff and emphasised the importance of unity, collaboration, and shared purpose. She highlighted that Seychelles’ true strength lies in its people, praising their passion, creativity, and commitment to excellence.
