Fifteen-year-old Seychellois basketball player Farib Gabriel has joined the Tours Métropole Academy in France, marking a significant step in his developing career. Standing at 2.08 metres, Gabriel left Seychelles on November 11 after impressing coaches and scouts during a successful trial earlier this year with his skill, discipline, and determination.
Farib’s path to international basketball began after he participated in the 3×3 Basketball Tournament organised by the Seychelles National Youth Council (SNYC) under its Basketball For Good programme. The event, held in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, the National Sports Council (NSC), and the Seychelles Basketball Federation (SBF), was part of the FIBA Foundation’s “Basketball for Good” initiative, which promotes the sport as a platform for youth empowerment and social development.
Following his impressive trial performance, Farib secured a place at Notre Dame La Riche College in Tours, where he will continue both his academic and athletic pursuits.
“This success highlights the positive impact of local youth and sports development initiatives led by SNYC and its partners, who continue to create pathways for young Seychellois to realise their full potential through sport.” Said SNYC
SNYC has extended its congratulations to Farib, commending his dedication and hard work. The Council expressed pride in his accomplishment and wished him continued success as he begins this new chapter abroad. Farib’s journey stands as an inspiration to young athletes across the country, proof that with passion, perseverance, and the right support, dreams can indeed become reality.
