
The Speaker of the National Assembly of Seychelles, Mrs Azarel Ernesta, has met the Speaker of India’s Lok Sabha, Om Birla. The meeting took place during a parliamentary conference in New Delhi.
The meeting took place on the sidelines of the 28th Conference of Speakers and Presiding Officers of the Commonwealth at the Parliament of India. It was held on the first day of Mrs Ernesta’s official visit to the country.
Mrs Ernesta said she welcomed Mr Birla’s reception. She also acknowledged his congratulations on her election as the first woman Speaker of the National Assembly of Seychelles.
She said the discussions reflected the long-standing relationship between Seychelles and India.
The two speakers discussed ways to strengthen parliamentary cooperation. They also exchanged views on the growing role of technology and artificial intelligence in legislative work.
In addition, they explored opportunities to expand capacity-building initiatives, including tailored parliamentary programmes.
Mrs Ernesta said she was encouraged by India’s progress in digital parliamentary systems. She also noted the planned discussions on artificial intelligence at the conference.
She said she looked forward to continued engagement through inter-parliamentary platforms to strengthen cooperation between the two countries.
