Kate Carolus is no longer Chairperson of the Seychelles Media Commission after she resigned in December 2025. President Patrick Herminie accepted her resignation, creating a vacancy at the head of the Commission.

The Constitutional Appointments Authority has now opened a call for applications to fill the position.

In February 2025, former President Wavel Ramkalawan appointed Carolus as Chairperson of the Seychelles Media Commission. The appointment was for a five-year term.

The Constitutional Appointments Authority said applications are open to Seychellois citizens who reside in Seychelles and meet the requirements set out in the Seychelles Media Commission Act 2010 and its 2017 amendment.

Eligible candidates must have wide experience as a media practitioner. Alternatively, they may have a strong legal or administrative background.

However, the position is not open to working journalists who own, manage, or run a newspaper or other media business.

Applicants must also not hold judicial or legislative functions under Articles 78 and 119 of the Constitution of Seychelles.

The Chairperson presides over meetings of the Commission. The role also requires the Chairperson to ensure that the SMC conducts its work in an orderly manner. In addition, the Chairperson must ensure that the Commission carries out its objectives and functions as outlined in Section 13 of the Act.

The appointment is for a term of five years. The allowance attached to the position will be set as prescribed.
