Seychelles has formally established diplomatic relations with Cameroon. The move follows the signing of a Joint Communiqué by the two countries’ foreign ministers.

Seychelles’ Minister of Foreign Affairs and the Diaspora, Barry Faure, signed the agreement with Cameroon’s Minister of External Relations, Mbella Mbella. The meeting took place on the margins of the African Union Executive Council in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

According to the Joint Communiqué, both countries agreed to establish diplomatic relations. The agreement aligns with the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations of 18 April 1961. It also aligns with the Vienna Convention on Consular Relations of 24 April 1963.

Moreover, the two ministers agreed to explore potential avenues for collaboration between Seychelles and Cameroon.

The signing marks a milestone in Seychelles’ diplomatic engagement within the African continent. It aims to foster friendly relations based on mutual respect, equality and sovereignty.

The agreement was signed in Addis Ababa.
