Seychelles Welcomes Outcome of African Union Executive Council Session

Seychelles has concluded its participation in the Forty-Eighth Ordinary Session of the African Union Executive Council. The session took place from 11 to 12 February 2026 at the African Union Headquarters in Addis Ababa. Ambassador Barry Faure, Minister of Foreign Affairs and the Diaspora, took part in deliberations on key issues linked to Africa’s collective priorities.

During the session, Seychelles welcomed the outcome of the Executive Council. The country also reaffirmed its commitment to continued engagement within the African Union framework. Moreover, the Council adopted decisions on multilateral cooperation. These decisions will shape how Africa engages with its partners.

In particular, discussions covered climate change and environmental matters. They also addressed peace and security. In addition, the Council examined financial and administrative matters related to the operations of the African Union Commission and its organs.

The Minister was accompanied by Ambassador Conrad Mederic, Seychelles’ Permanent Representative to the African Union. The delegation also included Principal Counsellor Johnette Stephen from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Diaspora. Furthermore, Patricia Ilunga, Second Secretary at the Embassy of the Republic of Seychelles in Addis Ababa, attended. Vanessa Seth, Desk Officer for the African Union at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Diaspora, was also part of the delegation.
