Seychelles and Russia Review Bilateral Ties Ahead of 50 Years of Diplomatic Relations

Seychelles’ Minister of Foreign Affairs and the Diaspora, Barry Faure, has met with Russia’s Foreign Minister, Sergey Lavrov, on the margins of the Russia–Africa Ministerial Conference in Cairo.

The meeting took place on Friday, 19 December 2025. The two ministers reviewed the state of cooperation between Seychelles and Russia, with a focus on the framework set out under the Russia-Africa Partnership Forum, established in Sochi in 2019.

According to the officials, bilateral relations are on a positive path. The discussions also looked ahead to 2026, when Seychelles and Russia will mark 50 years of formal diplomatic relations.

Both ministers reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening economic and technical cooperation. They said closer ties would be pursued for the mutual benefit of the two countries and their peoples.
