A commemorative plaque was unveiled to mark the completion of the West Coast Road Improvement Project during a ceremony on Thursday, October 23, at Anse à la Mouche. The event was attended by outgoing President Wavel Ramkalawan, Minister of Transport Anthony Derjaques, Chargé d’Affaires for the UAE Embassy Sheik Ahmed Saaed Alneyadi, and Principal Secretary for Transport Patrick Andre, who officially revealed the inaugural plaque.

The project focused on widening a 3.3-kilometer stretch of road and constructing new pavements between the Anse à la Mouche junction and Baie Lazare School. The aim was to alleviate traffic congestion, improve road safety, enhance flood resilience, and boost economic growth by improving connectivity for businesses and facilitating trade.
Minister Derjaques emphasized the importance of the road for the local community, stating, “This road is essential for residents, making their lives easier and supporting future development plans in the area.”
Outgoing President Ramkalawan also noted the significant improvements, remarking that the road now resembled a highway and was much safer to drive on compared to 2022.
The West Coast Road Improvement Project, which began in September 2022, was carried out in phases with a total investment of $33.6 million from the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development.
