In his final address to the nation, outgoing President of Seychelles, Wavel Ramkalawan, expressed gratitude to the people of Seychelles for the trust placed in him and his administration over the past five years. The address, broadcast on all television stations across the country on Friday, October 24, reflected on his administration’s key achievements and challenges.

President Ramkalawan highlighted several accomplishments during his tenure, such as the nationwide COVID-19 vaccination programme, the reopening of Seychelles’ borders to revive the tourism industry during the pandemic, dealing with the 7th of December calamity and the successful hosting of the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup.
He also provided an overview of the country’s financial situation, noting significant improvement since he first took office. According to Mr. Ramkalawan, the national coffers, which were in deficit when he assumed the presidency, now hold over 1.6 billion Seychellois rupees.
Concluding his message, President Ramkalawan stated that he had served the nation “with honesty, loyalty, courage, and respect.” He extended his best wishes to the incoming administration and encouraged the Seychellois people to continue working together for the nation’s progress.
