President of Seychelles, Dr Patrick Herminie, has met India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Hyderabad House in New Delhi during his official visit to the country. The visit will continue until 10 February.
According to DD India, the meeting forms part of the President’s official engagements in the Indian capital. It is Dr Herminie’s first visit to India since taking office in October 2025. The trip also coincides with the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
DD India reported that Seychelles remains an important maritime neighbour for India in the Indian Ocean region. The broadcaster stated that the country holds “a special place in India’s vision Mahasagar,” which focuses on mutual and holistic advancement for security and growth across regions and partnership with the Global South.
Dr Herminie was sworn in as the sixth President of Seychelles in October 2025. India’s Vice President C. P. Radhakrishnan represented India at the ceremony. In turn, the current visit follows the Vice President of India’s visit to Seychelles in October last year.
According to DD India, the visit is expected to strengthen cooperation and deepen people-to-people ties between the two nations. The broadcaster added that India’s bilateral engagement with Seychelles has been shaped by historical links and continued support for the country’s security.
DD India also noted that relations between India and Seychelles reflect long-standing friendship, understanding and cooperation. Historical records show that in 1770, a small group of five Indians arrived in Seychelles as plantation workers alongside African workers and were recorded among the first inhabitants of the islands.
