This week’s National Assembly session was opened by a motion from Sylvianne Lemiel, the Leader of Government Business, proposing Mrs. Veronique Laporte as a new Minister in the government. The session, which lasted nearly half a day, involved Assembly members questioning Mrs. Laporte about her experience and how she plans to deliver on the United Seychelles manifesto that brought the new government to power.
“My strength lies in leadership and management,” Mrs. Laporte stated during her presentation.
Mrs. Laporte brings a wealth of experience from both the public and private sectors. Her distinguished career includes roles as the Chief Executive Officer of the Seychelles Public Transport Corporation, Chief Executive of the Seychelles Trading Company, and a board member of ABSA Seychelles, among other leadership positions.
Following her interview, the Assembly engaged in debates over her nomination. When the vote was called, the proposal for her appointment was approved with 17 votes in favor from United Seychelles members.

However, 13 members from the Linyon Demokratik Seselwa party abstained from voting. In addition to Mrs. Laporte’s nomination, three other motions for ministerial appointments were also brought before the house.
These were for Mrs. Pamela Charlette, Eveline Rose, and Kalsey Belle. By the end of the session, all four proposed ministers were approved.
