Seychelles artist Carlos Dorasamy, known as Jakim, has won the African Super Star award at the 9th ODA Awards in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
The ceremony took place on 10 December 2025. The ODA Awards celebrate excellence in African music. They recognise artists for creativity, influence and cultural contribution across the continent.
Jakim described the moment as a major blessing.
“It is such a blessing to be here in Ethiopia to receive this award. This award is for my country, Seychelles, my family, my fans and for Africa too,” he said.
Meanwhile, fans in Seychelles followed the moment in spirit. At the same time, members of the Seychellois community in Addis Ababa attended the event to support him.
In addition, Jakim thanked the Creative Seychelles Agency for helping to make the trip possible. He also praised his team, Go Get It, for their work behind the scenes.
The artist said the award carries meaning beyond his own success.
“This recognition is not just for me,” Jakim says. “It is a moment for all Seychellois, and I hope it inspires other young artists to pursue their dreams with dedication and passion.”
As a result, Jakim becomes the second Seychellois artist to receive an ODA Award. Taniah became the first after winning the East African Super Star category at the 8th ODA Awards in late 2024.
