The central bank of Seychelles has announced its intention to introduce a new version of the 500 Seychelles rupee note. This new version will be in circulation as of December 2025.

Mike Tirant, the Second Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Seychelles, explained that this decision was taken as the England-based company that initially printed the 500 rupee note is no longer able to provide the same security features as it did during the production of the original note.

The CBS says that the new version will have visible differences compared to the original version. This includes the introduction of a holographic sea turtle as part of the new security feature of the note. The updated version of the 500 rupee note includes other evident variations, particularly in the design aspects of its graphics.

According to CBS, while both versions of the note will be in circulation, with time, the old version of the 500 note will be gradually replaced.
