A catamaran identified as The Hygge of Denmark drifted into the rock armoured shoreline near St Anne Island on Sunday afternoon. This is according to information gathered at the scene.
The vessel was believed to have been anchored within the marine park near the island before the incident. However, it remains unclear how the catamaran drifted onto the rocks shortly before 15:00 local time.
It is also unclear whether anyone was on board when the incident happened. However, information gathered indicates that the foreign nationals who had earlier been on the catamaran were on another island within the marine park at the time.
A source said those on the vessel earlier travelled by small dinghy to the scene after learning about the incident.
When Victoria Scope arrived at about 15:01, marine police officers were already on site. The catamaran appeared slightly tilted to one side. The incident also drew the attention of workers on St Anne Island.
Earlier on Sunday, the Seychelles Meteorological Authority had issued a marine weather forecast for the inner islands. This included the Mahé area.
The forecast said conditions would be partly cloudy with south-easterly winds of 20 to 35 km/h and wave heights between 1.0 and 2.0 metres. Moreover, sea conditions were described as moderate.
The authority also said moderate south-easterly winds were expected to continue over the next 48 hours.
The circumstances surrounding the incident remain unclear.
