The President of the Republic of Seychelles, Dr Patrick Herminie, visited the Apollo Proton Cancer Centre in Chennai. The visit formed part of government efforts to expand access to specialised oncology care. The visit was a significant step forward in Apollo Proton Cancer Centre Seychelles cooperation, and also aimed to strengthen health sector capacity and deepen international healthcare partnerships.
The government is exploring opportunities to secure access to oncology services for Seychellois patients. Officials said the Centre’s equipment, medical expertise, and patient care services position it as a possible referral destination under consideration by the Ministry of Health.
The Apollo Proton Cancer Centre treats patients from many countries. It is internationally recognised for clinical care standards, medical technology, and specialised cancer treatment. Proton Therapy is an advanced form of radiation treatment. It allows greater precision, reduces side effects, and supports improved patient outcomes.
During the visit, discussions with the Centre’s management focused on strengthening healthcare cooperation. Talks covered capacity building, professional exchanges, and collaboration through physical and virtual platforms. Officials placed emphasis on the potential use of telemedicine to support consultations, knowledge sharing, and continued engagement between health professionals and patients in both countries.
The visit demonstrates the government’s commitment to improving access to specialised cancer care and strengthening partnerships with international medical institutions.
