The Seychelles Trading Company Limited (STC) has appointed Patrick Vel as its interim chief executive officer for a period of six months.

In a statement issued on 16 December, the company’s board said Mr Vel would take up the role from 17 December 2025. His appointment was made in consultation with the minister responsible for finance, economic planning, trade and investment, as well as the President of the Republic.

Mr Vel has held senior leadership roles across several public enterprises. In 2007, he was appointed to head the newly formed Seychelles Trading Company, which was created following the reorganisation and partial privatisation of the former Seychelles Marketing Board (SMB).

In 2013, following the end of his contract, he was replaced as managing director of STC by Veronique Laporte, who is now a cabinet minister.

In 2016, Mr Vel was appointed chief executive of the Seychelles Public Transport Corporation (SPTC). He retired from public service at the end of December 2022 after six years in the role.

The STC board said Mr Vel’s experience and familiarity with the organisation’s operations would support continuity during the transition period.

The board said it would begin a formal recruitment process to appoint a substantive chief executive, in line with the Public Enterprises Act.

In its statement, STC said it remained committed to ensuring organisational stability and the uninterrupted delivery of services, while maintaining its mandate to safeguard food security and access to essential commodities for the public.
