Auditor General presents 2024 report to National Assembly Speaker

The Auditor General, Gamini Herath, has presented the Report of the Auditor General 2024 to the Speaker of the National Assembly, Azarel Ernesta. The handover took place on Friday afternoon, 12 December 2025.

The report provides an assessment of how public funds are managed and used by government entities and public institutions. It is intended to support accountability and transparency in public financial management.

Mr Herath said presenting the report to the National Assembly helps to keep both lawmakers and the public informed about government operations and the performance of programmes funded through public resources. He added that the process strengthens oversight of public spending.

Before the meeting ended, Mr Herath congratulated Ms Ernesta on her appointment as Speaker.

In response, Ms Ernesta thanked the Office of the Auditor General and said she looked forward to working closely with it. She added that the National Assembly would seek the office’s support and technical expertise during the development and implementation of the Administration Act, which, once approved, will govern the autonomy of the Legislature.
