The Agency for Social Protection (ASP) has confirmed that social security payments have been made according to the normal schedule.

In a statement, the ASP’s chief executive, Mrs Edmond, said payments were effected from the 15th of the month. She said this included pension benefits for all individuals on the agency’s payroll.

She added that some newly registered pensioners aged between 63 and 64 have already received their payments. Others, who applied more recently, will be paid by next week, based on the publication date of this article.

In addition, Mrs Edmond clarified that the 800-rupee increase announced by President Patrick Herminie in November 2025 applies only to social security pensions.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Finance, Economic Planning, Trade and Investment said a slight delay in some payments was linked to a surge in applications. About 1,100 new applicants applied for benefits in the past month.

The Secretary of State at the ministry, Mr Payet, said around 400 applications have already been processed. He confirmed that those applicants received their benefits from 15 January 2026. He added that the remaining applicants will be paid by the end of the month.

The Agency for Social Protection has urged people who have reached the retirement age of 63 and who qualify for benefits to register promptly.
