The Seychelles Tourism Board will be reinstated next year after the Cabinet of Ministers approved new legislation and structural reforms in the tourism sector.
Cabinet has approved the Seychelles Tourism Board Bill, 2025, alongside the restructuring of the national tourism framework. As a result, a bill will be presented to the National Assembly for approval.
The decision re-establishes the Seychelles Tourism Board as an independent body. Its sole responsibility will be marketing and promoting Seychelles as a tourism destination.
The Seychelles Tourism Board was first established on 1 April 2005 under the Seychelles Tourism Board Act. It centralised promotion, marketing, regulatory, and monitoring functions. Until 2020, the board led destination marketing activities.
However, after 2020, the previous administration transferred these functions to the Ministry for Foreign Affairs and Tourism.
The current government says this structure placed pressure on the ministry. At the same time, the ministry remained responsible for tourism policy development and oversight.
According to Cabinet Secretary Margaret Moumou, staff from the Destination Marketing Division will move to the reinstated board. Consequently, the board will focus exclusively on marketing and promotion, using the budget currently allocated to the department under the ministry.
Under the new arrangement, the Tourism Department will continue to manage policy and regulatory functions. Meanwhile, the board of directors will consist of representatives from both public and private sectors. Its daily operations will be overseen by a chief executive officer.
