Seychelles and UAE reaffirm bilateral ties at UAE’s 54th National Day celebration

Seychelles and the United Arab Emirates have reaffirmed their long-standing bilateral relationship during a reception marking the UAE’s 54th National Day on 27 November 2025.

The event, held at the Savoy Hotel, brought together senior government officials, including President Dr Patrick Herminie, Speaker Azarel Ernesta, President of the Court of Appeal Anthony Fernando, members of the Cabinet, former President Danny Faure, diplomats, members of the National Assembly and other invited guests.

Addressing the gathering, Ahmed Saeed Alneyadi, Chargé d’Affaires of the UAE Embassy in Seychelles, said this year’s celebration was held under the theme “United”. He said the theme reflects the unity of UAE society and the cooperative values on which the country was founded.

He also highlighted the UAE’s efforts over the years, including the signing of international agreements and memoranda of understanding to support global work in renewable energy.

Speaking on behalf of President Herminie and the people of Seychelles, the Minister for Foreign Affairs and Diaspora, Barry Faure, conveyed congratulations to Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE and Ruler of Abu Dhabi, as well as to the government and people of the UAE.

Minister Faure commended the UAE’s efforts over the past five decades to promote inclusiveness, tolerance and openness, noting that these are values Seychelles shares as it works to build a modern and inclusive society. He acknowledged the UAE’s leadership on global cooperation and climate action, from hosting COP28 to its investments in renewable energy, saying these initiatives continue to inspire Seychelles as a small developing island state facing the impacts of climate change. Seychelles, he added, values the UAE’s call for shared responsibility.

Reflecting on the bilateral relationship established in 1982, Minister Faure said the partnership “continues to demonstrate the strength of our friendship”. He recognised the UAE’s support across key national sectors including infrastructure, education, health, governance, tourism, trade and renewable energy. Current projects funded by the UAE include the Orchid Housing project at Barbarons in the Grand Anse district, while the West Coast Road development project was also noted for its impact on communities.

Minister Faure said additional projects funded by the UAE, among them a planned modern sports complex in Anse Royale, will bring further benefits to Seychellois communities. These commitments, he said, reflect the ongoing impact of the cooperation between the two countries.

He closed by thanking Ahmed Saeed Alneyadi for his role in advancing cooperation between Seychelles and the UAE and for maintaining an open and constructive dialogue.
