Mr. Sebastien Pillay was officially sworn in as the new Vice President of Seychelles on Tuesday October 28, during a brief ceremony held at State House. The event was attended by President Dr. Patrick Herminie, Chief Justice Rony Govinden, members of Mr. Pillay’s family, and other invited guests.
Mr. Pillay, who has been active in Seychellois politics for the past 15 years, previously served as Leader of the Opposition in the 7th National Assembly. He was also Dr. Herminie’s running mate in the recent presidential election.
“It is my wish and expectation to work closely alongside President Herminie to deliver the program he has set for the country during his five-year mandate,” said Vice President Pillay following his swearing-in.
At 47 years old, Mr. Pillay becomes the youngest Vice President in Seychelles’ history. He expressed hope that his appointment will inspire more young people to become involved in politics.
“I hope that my story can inspire enthusiasm and motivation among our youth to engage in politics,” he added.
President Herminie congratulated his new Vice President, describing him as a symbol of the nation’s future.
“As you take up the mantle of Vice President, know that you carry the hopes of our nation. You stand beside a president committed to partnership, and you embody the unity and renewal that our people deserve,” President Herminie said.
