The government has signed an agreement with Jan De Nul Dredging Ltd to begin the first phase of dredging works at Île Aurore.

The project forms part of a wider land reclamation programme that includes the Île Aurore extension, Zone 20 near the landfill, and Zone 5 near Pangia. The government will carry out the works in two phases.

The land reclamation project will create more than 570,000 square metres of new land, mainly for economic development. Authorities said all works will comply with approved construction plans and Planning Authority guidelines.

The first phase of the project is expected to start by the end of March 2026 and conclude by the end of the year. This phase will focus on dredging works to prepare Île Aurore for future development.

In a statement from State House, the signing followed an announcement made earlier by President Patrick Herminie on the government’s plans to reclaim new land for development.

State House said the reclaimed land will provide plots for housing, support infrastructure development, and allow for small business activity.

The project aligns with commitments outlined by the President in his recent State of the Nation Address, including plans to deliver at least 150 land plots within the first quarter of the government’s mandate.

The Principal Secretary for Lands, Denis Barbe, signed the agreement during a ceremony at State House.

President Patrick Herminie and Vice President Sebastien Pillay attended the signing. Secretary of State for Lands and Housing Joseph Francois and senior government officials were also present.

State House confirmed that funding for the first phase has been secured, allowing work to begin without delay.
