The government has approved the International Long-Haul Fleet Strategy for Air Seychelles. This includes plans to lease two Airbus A321 XLR aircraft for the airline’s long-haul expansion.

According to the Cabinet of ministers, the Airbus A321 XLR was identified as the preferred option because of its projected profitability and operational efficiency. Furthermore, it is compatible with the airline’s existing fleet.

The review process also considered the Airbus A330-800 NEO option. However, Cabinet approved the A321 XLR strategy instead.

In addition, Cabinet authorised coordination among relevant agencies for the development of an alternate airport on Coetivy Island.

The announcement forms part of the government’s wider plans concerning aviation infrastructure and the future operations of Air Seychelles.
