Once a familiar face on télésesel, Madiha Philo has always been guided by curiosity and ambition. That same drive has now taken her across the world to the University of Florida in Gainesville, where she is pursuing a second master’s degree in Entrepreneurship.
Her career path has been anything but conventional. After several years in the media industry, Madiha moved into the banking sector, where she developed a growing interest in business and innovation. This interest eventually motivated her to apply for the Fulbright Foreign Student Program for 2025/2026 through the U.S. Embassy.
“In 2024, I applied for the scholarship, and I was among two Seychellois chosen.”

The Fulbright Program, funded by the U.S. government, is one of the world’s most respected scholarship initiatives. Although relatively new to Seychelles, it has long been recognized internationally for promoting academic excellence and cultural exchange.

At the University of Florida, Madiha has joined a diverse group of students and researchers. “This year alone, there are around fifty new Fulbright students from countries all over the world,” she shares.
Asked what motivated her to study abroad, Madiha explains that she wanted to experience life in a different economic and social environment, compared to Seychelles where she grew up. While international students face restrictions on starting their own businesses in the U.S., Madiha is using her time there to strengthen her entrepreneurial skills, from pitching ideas to networking with professionals. She hopes to one day launch her own venture while continuing to build on her experience in the banking sector.

Her advice to others considering a similar path is straightforward: “If you have a skill or a talent that you can develop further, that’s your first step toward becoming an entrepreneur,” she says.
“We all have dreams and aspirations. To achieve them, you have to take risks, make sacrifices, and keep a positive mindset.”
Madiha Philo is expected to complete her studies in August 2026 and hopes to return home ready to contribute new ideas and experiences to inspire the next generation of entrepreneurs in Seychelles.
