The Marine Conservation Society Seychelles (MCSS), with support from the Seychelles Conservation and Climate Adaptation Trust (SeyCCAT), is asking the public to help gather ecological data on dolphins and whales in Seychelles waters. The request forms part of its ongoing cetaceans project.
MCSS urges people who have taken photos or videos of cetaceans from 2026 onwards to share their footage. The organisation says the material will expand its database, build a comprehensive species list, and map important habitats.
“We are asking for the community’s support in gathering key ecological data on dolphins and whales in Seychelles waters,” MCSS says.
Contributors should send images or videos by WhatsApp or email and include the date, time, and location of the sighting. MCSS says these details support accurate data collection and mapping.
In addition, MCSS invites volunteers to join its cetaceans project on a part-time basis. Volunteers will assist with land- and boat-based surveys around the inner islands, focusing on monitoring dolphins and whales. MCSS says it will provide training in cetacean identification.
Applicants must be aged 16 or over, based in Seychelles, and available on weekdays from March 2026 onwards.
“We thank you for your support and look forward to hearing from you,” MCSS says.
The project receives funding from SeyCCAT and aims to strengthen understanding of cetacean presence and distribution in Seychelles waters.
