A short meeting was held this week at the Ministry of Transport, Ports and Civil Aviation, where hydrographic survey data was formally handed over to the Government of Seychelles.
The meeting was convened by the Indian High Commission. India’s Defence Adviser to Seychelles, Captain V. Shirdikant, handed over the data to the Principal Secretary for the Department of Ports and Civil Aviation, David Bianchi.
A formal handover document was signed during the meeting.
Hydrographic data relates to the measurement and mapping of water bodies. It includes information on water depths, seabed features, tides and currents. Such data supports safe navigation, the production of nautical charts and maritime planning.
The hydrographic survey data was generated from surveys carried out by the Indian Navy between 2019 and 2020.
Also present was Captain Daniel Adam, Chief Executive Officer of the Seychelles Maritime Safety Authority and Chair of the Seychelles Hydrographic Committee.
The Indian delegation included Commander Yogesh Bharadwaj and Ms Satinder Kaur. Ms Esha Benoiton, Senior Legal Officer at the Seychelles Maritime Safety Authority, also attended the handover.
