Thousands gathered at Stad Linite on Sunday to witness a historic moment: the swearing-in of Dr. Patrick Herminie as the sixth President of the Republic of Seychelles. Among the dignitaries in attendance was Dr. Navin Ramgoolam, Prime Minister of Mauritius.

A Patriotic and Emotional Ceremony
The one-and-a-half-hour ceremony was filled with patriotic performances that stirred deep emotions among the crowd. One of the most heartfelt moments came when Dr. Vanessa Herminie, daughter of the new president, delivered a tribute praising her father’s perseverance and lifelong dedication.
In line with Article 57 of the Constitution of Seychelles, the highlight of the event came when Dr. Herminie took the Oath of office before Chief Justice Rony Govinden. The audience erupted in applause as he completed the presidential oath.
The ceremony continued with a 21-gun salute and, for the first time, a military salute honoring the newly sworn-in president.

A Message of Unity and Vision
“It is my wish to unify the people of Seychelles,” said President Herminie in his first address to the nation. He outlined his government’s five-year plan, promising that his administration would serve “the many, not the few.”
“Our manifesto is ambitious, but viable,” he emphasized, highlighting his commitment to inclusivity and accountability. The president also announced a 100-day social contract, pledging to “listen, measure, and adjust” government actions to reflect the needs of Seychellois citizens.

Strengthening International Partnerships
Addressing Seychelles’ international partners, President Herminie extended a message of cooperation: “We extend an open hand of friendship, solidarity, and mutual respect. We seek partnerships that grow through fair trade, commerce, investment, and knowledge exchange that benefit all sides.” He reaffirmed Seychelles’ sovereignty, declaring in Creole: “Sesel i pour Seselwa” , which translates to “Seychelles is for Seychellois” in English.
Gratitude and Inspiration
President Herminie expressed gratitude to his loyal supporters and dedicated his victory to his late parents, reflecting on his humble beginnings. “Today, I am an example to all children, whatever your background, you too can become President of Seychelles,” he said.
Concluding his speech, he pledged to lead with integrity and determination: “Today, we begin building a new and better Seychelles. I will deliver to the best of my ability, I am a man of my word.”
A Night of National Pride
The ceremony concluded with patriotic performances and a spectacular fireworks display that lit up the skies over Stad Linite, marking the beginning of a new chapter in Seychelles’ history.
