Police Issue Urgent Warning Over Fake President Profiles Used in Online Scams

The Seychelles Police Force has issued a public warning about fraudulent social media profiles falsely using the name and image of President Dr Patrick Herminie.

In a statement released on Friday, police said the fake Facebook accounts are being used to deceive members of the public. These accounts solicit money, personal information, and other benefits under false pretences.

The police stressed that the accounts have no connection to Patrick Herminie or to any official government office.

“The President does not request money, financial assistance, personal details, or private communications through social media platforms, messaging applications, or unofficial websites,” the statement said. “Any such request should be treated as a scam.”

According to the Seychelles Police Force, several reports have already been received. As a result, an investigation is under way to identify those behind the impersonation attempts. Police said anyone found responsible will face legal action.

The public has been urged to remain vigilant and to verify information only through official and recognised government channels. Police also advised people not to engage with accounts claiming to represent the President outside verified platforms.

In addition, members of the public were warned not to send money, gift cards, or personal information to unknown online contacts. Furthermore, any suspected scam should be reported immediately to the police or the Cybercrime Unit.

The Seychelles Police Force said public cooperation is essential to prevent further victimisation. It added that official updates and communications will continue to be shared through verified channels only.

Reports can be made through official Seychelles Police Force platforms. This includes its social media pages, WhatsApp line, police command centre numbers, or official email address.
