Christmas Gift Initiative Brings Support to Vulnerable Children

Many children were greeted with smiles on Saturday morning, 20 December 2025, during a Christmas gift handover held at the National Council for Children (NCC).

The Minister for Social Affairs, Family and Equality, Pamela Charlette, attended the event alongside principal secretaries and the secretary of state. The handover formed part of the NCC’s ongoing festive campaign to provide Christmas presents to children in need.

The small ceremony took place at the headquarters of the National Council for Children, in the presence of the organisation’s chief executive, Yasmin Umarji. The gifts were donated by several government-related departments.

A substantial contribution came from the Ministry for Social Affairs, Family and Equality through its various departments, including Social Affairs, the Department of Family and the ministry’s secretariat

.“Give a Child a Gift” is an initiative launched by the NCC four years ago. It aims to promote compassion and generosity during the festive season by encouraging the donation of presents to underprivileged children.

The campaign is carried out in collaboration with partners such as the Soroptimist International Club of Victoria and private sector organisations, including hotels such as Canopy by Hilton. Donations are collected and distributed through district administrators to ensure children in need receive gifts.

This year, the NCC and its partners organised a series of activities linked to the initiative, which took place between 12 and 17 December, as part of the lead-up to the festive season.
