The National Assembly has approved the nomination of four new ambassadors. The decision was taken on Tuesday, 16 December 2025.
The four appointments are part of six nominations proposed by President Dr Patrick Herminie. Motions seeking approval were tabled by the Leader of Government Business, Sylvanne Lemiel. Mrs Lemiel tabled four motions during the sitting. The first motion sought approval for the nomination of Mr Jacques Francois Eugene Belle.
“In accordance with Articles 63(1) and 64(1) of the Constitution, the National Assembly approves the proposed appointment by the President of the Republic of Mr Jacques Francois Eugene Belle as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Seychelles,” the motion read.
All four nominees followed the same approval process. Each candidate first made a presentation to the Assembly where they outlined their personal and professional background and proficiencies. This was followed by an interview-style session. Members of the National Assembly asked questions and sought clarification. The Assembly then debated each motion.
The other nominees considered on Tuesday were Mr Terry Romain, Mrs Jacqueline Moustache Belle, and Mr Andre Louis Bernard Pool.
During deliberations, it was stated that Mr Bernard Pool is being proposed as Seychelles’ ambassador to Cuba. Mr Pool told the Assembly that his ability to speak Spanish would support his diplomatic responsibilities. Questions from members focused on cooperation between Seychelles and Cuba. These included areas such as health and sports. Mr Pool is expected to be based in Havana.
All four nominees were approved by a majority vote of the Assembly. They now formally hold the title of Ambassador.
In the next session, the National Assembly is expected to consider the nominations of Mr Patrick Victor and Mr Nicholas Prea.
