France, Seychelles reaffirm cooperation during ambassador’s meeting with Foreign Minister Barry Faure

France’s Ambassador to Seychelles, Anne Tallineau, paid a courtesy call on the Minister for Foreign Affairs and the Diaspora, Barry Faure, on Monday, 15 December 2025.

The meeting took place at Maison Quéau de Quinssy in Mont Fleuri, where both sides reaffirmed the longstanding friendship and cooperation between France and Seychelles.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Diaspora, discussions also explored new areas of cooperation. Ambassador Tallineau highlighted the importance of establishing a joint commission to broaden and strengthen collaboration in areas of shared interest.

The talks covered EU-funded regional cooperation programmes led by French local authorities in the region, including the Indian Ocean programme. Seychelles is the third-largest beneficiary and plays an active role in the initiative.

Maritime security and military cooperation were also discussed, with both identified as strategically important for Seychelles. France, as a member of the European Union, contributes to Operation Atalanta under the EU Naval Force, which focuses on countering piracy. It also participates in the regional maritime security architecture of the Indian Ocean Commission, of which it is a member state.

Ambassador Tallineau said that, ahead of France assuming the presidency of the Indian Ocean Commission next year, the country intends to demonstrate the same level of commitment and engagement shown by Seychelles during its tenure.
