The Seychelles Small Hotels & Establishments Association (SSHEA) has expressed support for the recent announcements made by President-elect Dr. Patrick Herminie concerning two important initiatives in the tourism sector to be implemented within his first 100 days in office.
One of these initiatives involves removing the requirement for licensed establishments to collect the Environment Sustainability Levy, which was introduced in 2023 by the previous administration. Peter Sinon, Chairperson of SSHEA, stated, “Since its introduction, we have found it challenging and inconvenient to collect the levy and make the necessary monthly payments to the Seychelles Revenue Commission.”
Additionally, SSHEA has welcomed the new government’s plan to review the current Seychelles Electronic Border System, known as TRAVISORY. Mr. Sinon noted that the Association believes this review will provide clarity about the system’s implementation, purpose, costs, and overall advantages, helping to build full confidence among industry stakeholders and the general public both locally and abroad.
