The select committee responsible for recommending candidates to the Seychelles Broadcasting Corporation (SBC) Board has opened applications.
Committee chairperson Marie-Claire Marie said some applicants have already submitted their applications. However, she said the committee will only confirm the number of applicants after the deadline.
“We will be in a better position to say how many people applied when we finish receiving all the applications,” Ms Marie said.
Ms Marie said the committee wants to receive as many applications as possible. She said this would give the committee a wider pool of candidates to consider.
“There are many debates on the SBC Board, so now is the opportunity for people interested who wish to make their contributions to be considered, and we will do the necessary,” Ms Marie said.
The chairperson also said the committee would follow a transparent and fair process.
“Definitely, I can guarantee that there will be no interference. Up to now, there has been no interference,” Ms Marie said.
She said all three committee members must reach a consensus during the selection process.
Ms Marie added that the committee has established clear criteria for selecting candidates.
She said candidates will also go through an interview process. The interviews will follow established procedures, she added.
“When we finish, we will submit a report, and all the procedures used will be in the report,” Ms Marie said.
The three-member select committee became effective on 13 July 2026. Ms Marie serves as chairperson, alongside Doris Moustache and Larrey Chetty.
The committee must select seven suitable candidates for recommendation to the SBC Board. From those seven recommended candidates, the President will appoint four members to the board.
The committee will also recommend a chairperson and vice-chairperson from the seven candidates.
Applications must be submitted by 17 August 2026.
The new SBC Board will have 11 members. Four members will be appointed by the President.
The remaining members will come from several organisations and institutions. These include the Media Practitioners Association, the National Assembly and the Citizens Engagement Platform Seychelles. The Seychelles Interfaith Council Organisation will also nominate a member. SBC staff will nominate another member.
The SBC Chief Executive Officer and Deputy Chief Executive Officer will serve as ex officio members. They will not have voting rights on the board.
