Eight new records were established during the 46th edition of the National Schools Athletics Competition (NSAC). This highlighted strong performances across several age groups.
The competition began early on Saturday 20 June at Stad Linite. Hundreds gathered to support athletes from schools across Seychelles.
Throughout the day, competitors took part in both track and field events.
The Minister for Education and Human Resource Development, David Pierre, officially opened the event.
President Dr Patrick Herminie was also in attendance.
The first gold medal of the day went to Nadrah Choisy of La Digue Primary School who participated in the Mini Hurdles event.
“I ran fast. I trained every day. My teacher trained me and I came out first,” she said.
The first of the eight records was set by Sameerah Albert of La Digue Primary School in the Girls Under-10 Mini Hurdles.
“I am very happy to come out first, but I had no idea I broke the first record,” she said.
Athletes who set new records will be compensated financially for their achievements.
Other record-breaking performances came from Leah Pool of SBSA in the Girls Open 200m, Saeed Euphrasie of SIT in the Boys Open Long Jump, Joaquim Nourrice of International Secondary School in the Boys Under-16 100m, Yannick Mounac of Seychelles Police Academy (SPA) in the Boys Open 1500m. Additionally, Lehandro Labiche of Praslin Secondary School set a record in the Boys Under-16 Long Jump.
La Digue Primary School also set a new record in the Girls Under-10 5x80m Relay. Additionally, SBSA established a new mark in the Girls Open 4x100m Relay.
At the end of the competition, organisers announced the best-performing schools in each category.
Perseverance Primary School finished first in the primary school category. Praslin Secondary School secured first place among secondary schools. Seychelles Police Academy finished first in the professional centre category.
Minister David Pierre presented the trophy to Perseverance Primary School. Vice-President Sebastien Pillay presented the trophy to Praslin Secondary School. President Herminie presented the trophy to Seychelles Police Academy.
