A baby attended a debate in the Seychelles National Assembly on Tuesday, marking a rare moment in the chamber.
The baby’s mother, Audrey Vidot, the elected member for Roche Caiman, brought her child to the National Assembly while on maternity leave.
Mrs Vidot attended an afternoon sitting during a debate on a proposed bill that seeks to establish a new drug enforcement agency in Seychelles.
During the debate, she shared her views and contributed to discussions on the proposed legislation.
Vice-President Sebastien Pillay presented the bill to the Assembly.
Mrs Vidot said she chose to attend despite being on maternity leave because of the importance of the legislation.
“Even if I am on maternity leave, I came with my child to show support and engagement towards the administration of Dr Patrick Herminie on a bill addressing the issue of combating drugs,” she said.
The presence of the baby in the chamber drew attention during proceedings as members debated the proposed legislation.
