Political activist and podcaster Vesna Rakic is linked to the Seychelles Tourism Board CEO role after announcing her departure from politics in a social media post.
Rakic did not directly mention the reported appointment in her social media statement. However, she confirmed she would be returning to the tourism sector.
Her expected appointment is likely to draw political attention because of her public involvement with rival political parties during the past two election periods.
Rakic was previously associated with the opposition party Linyon Demokratik Seselwa (LDS). However, she later became active in online campaigning for United Seychelles during the most recent election campaign.
In her statement, Rakic reflected on her years in politics and her involvement in national campaigns.
“My political path brought me to the centre of it — through several election cycles, national campaigns, and two changes of government,” she wrote.
She also said she had tried to “stay grounded” and “speak with respect” throughout her political involvement.
Rakic said she will now return to the tourism sector, where she began her career in marketing three decades ago.
“Returning to mainstream tourism, where my career in marketing began three decades ago, comes with both humility and purpose,” she wrote.“It is an area I am deeply passionate about, and I will give it my very best to support the team, the industry, and the stakeholders I will work with.”
She also spoke about protecting Seychelles’ environment and national identity.
“More than ever, I believe we are being called to come together, to do better, to protect what makes Seychelles unique,” Rakic said.
She concluded her message by saying her aim is “to leave this place better than we found it”.
