President Herminie Summons 8th National Assembly for First Sitting

Just hours after taking the presidential oath, President Patrick Herminie issued a proclamation in the Official Gazette convening the first sitting of the newly elected National Assembly. According to Statutory Instrument 81 of 2025, “The National Assembly is hereby summoned for its first meeting, which will be held on Tuesday, October 28, 2025, in the precinct of the National Assembly of Seychelles, Ile du Port, Mahé, commencing at 9 a.m.”

During the initial part of the sitting, outgoing Speaker Roger Mancienne will preside over proceedings as the new members of the National Assembly are sworn in, followed by the election of a new Speaker.

The session will then be briefly suspended to allow the newly elected Speaker to assume the chair. The second part of the sitting will include the election of a new Leader of the Opposition, who will come from the Linyon Demokratik Seselwa (LDS) party, as well as the election of a Deputy Speaker. The Leader of Government Business, expected to be a member of the ruling United Seychelles party, will also be announced.
