The President of the Republic and Commander-in-Chief of the Seychelles Defence Forces toured the National Information Sharing and Coordination Centre and the Regional Coordination Operations Centre on Tuesday 30 December 2025.
During the visit, officers briefed the President on their work. They explained daily operations. They outlined how the centres help protect Seychelles’ maritime area.
Officials also provided updates on surveillance and response activities. They explained how agencies detect and respond to illegal activities at sea. In addition, they described how different services coordinate efforts across the Exclusive Economic Zone.
The National Information Sharing and Coordination Centre was established in 2018. It operates as a multi-agency platform. It supports information sharing and operational coordination.
The centre monitors the Exclusive Economic Zone. It also coordinates maritime distress and search-and-rescue incidents. Furthermore, it supports responses to illegal maritime activities.
The Regional Coordination Operations Centre was also established in 2018. It operates under a regional agreement involving several western Indian Ocean countries.
The centre coordinates joint regional operations. These focus on piracy, organised crime and illegal activities at sea. It also supports search-and-rescue efforts and maritime safety when required.
