The Office of the President has announced that President Patrick Herminie has withdrawn the appointment of Mr Sabry Khan as Director-General of the Seychelles Intelligence Service.

In a statement, the Office said the appointment process followed the Seychelles Intelligence Service Act, 2018. It began on 5 December 2025, after the former Director-General’s term ended.

At the time, the Office said it received advice that the Defence and Security Committee of the National Assembly had not yet been formed. The National Assembly later established the committee on 11 December 2025, after swearing in its members.

As a result, the Office said prior consultation with the committee was not possible. It said this context formed part of the decision-making process.

However, the Office said it has now temporarily withdrawn the appointment. It added that it has submitted the nomination to the National Assembly. Consultation with the Defence and Security Committee will now take place, “in accordance with both the letter and spirit of the law”.

The Office also stressed that the consultation process under the law is “advisory in nature”. It said the final decision to appoint the Director-General remains the President’s prerogative.

Meanwhile, the government said it remains committed to continuity and stability within the Seychelles Intelligence Service, given its role in national security and the constitutional order.
