Nicholas Prea Makes Political Comeback with Ambassadorial Approval

The National Assembly has approved the nomination of two ambassadors, Patrick Victor and Nicholas Prea.

Both nominees were put forward by President Patrick Herminie, with motions for their approval tabled by the Leader of Government Business, Sylvanne Lemiel, on Wednesday 17 December 2025.

In line with established procedures, each nominee addressed the Assembly and outlined their professional background and experience before being questioned by members.

Mr Victor spoke about his career and contributions in the cultural sector. His nomination was described as a formalisation of a role he has already been performing, as he currently serves as an honorary cultural ambassador. Following the interview process and debate, his appointment was approved by a majority vote.

Mr Prea then appeared before the Assembly. He is a former politician who previously served as a member of the National Assembly, Deputy Speaker and Speaker of the House. His nomination followed the same approval process applied to other ambassadorial candidates considered earlier in the week.

During questioning, one member asked Mr Prea about his absence from public life over the past five years. In response, he said he had been inactive and felt “rejected”. He added that he had remained engaged through family life and personal activities.

Mr Prea told the Assembly that he accepted the nomination after being proposed by President Herminie, citing what he described as his guiding principle: “Ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country.”

The specific posting for Mr Prea has not yet been announced.
