Seychelles President Meets UAE Leader on First Official Overseas Visit

The President of the Republic of Seychelles, Dr Patrick Herminie, has met with the President of the United Arab Emirates, His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, during his first international mission since assuming office.

The official visit, which was extended at the invitation of the UAE President, was held as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries. The meeting was used to formally establish a personal working relationship between the two leaders and to reaffirm shared interest in advancing cooperation.

During the meeting, President Herminie conveyed congratulations and best wishes from the Government and people of Seychelles to the leadership and citizens of the UAE on the occasion of the country’s 54th National Day. An overview of the UAE’s national development since its founding was provided by His Highness Sheikh Mohamed, with emphasis placed on the role of the country’s founding leadership in shaping its progress.

Appreciation was also conveyed on behalf of Seychelles for the UAE’s long-standing support to national development. Cooperation has been provided over several decades in key sectors including infrastructure development, renewable energy, health, education and maritime security. These contributions were described as having delivered lasting benefits to the people of Seychelles.

Discussions were also held on future areas of cooperation. Continued collaboration was reaffirmed by the UAE in support of the priorities of the newly formed administration. Areas identified for further cooperation included energy, nation building, education, maritime security and technological development.

The meeting concluded with both leaders reaffirming their commitment to strengthening Seychelles-UAE relations and advancing cooperation based on a shared history of partnership.
