
The Minister for Homeland Security and Civil Affairs, James Camille, has continued his ongoing familiarisation programme with a series of visits to key units within the Seychelles Police Force and the Seychelles Prison Services.
According to the Ministry, the visits on 18 November covered several police departments and operational sites, including the Seychelles Police Headquarters, the Anti-Terrorism/Quick Response Unit, the Marine Police Unit, the Financial Crime Intelligence Unit (FCIU), the Commercial Crime and Compliance Unit, the Perseverance Police Station, and the Perseverance Remand Centre. Minister Camille also viewed the construction of the new Marine Police building, part of ongoing infrastructure upgrades.
During the engagements, the Minister met officers and staff to better understand daily operations, challenges, and resource needs. Discussions focused on staff welfare and the need to strengthen existing laws to support police work in areas such as organised crime, financial crime, cyber security, and counter-terrorism.
He emphasised the importance of improved working conditions, infrastructure investment, and updated legislation to enhance law-enforcement effectiveness. The Ministry stated that these visits form part of a wider programme aimed at improving collaboration, operational capacity, and support for personnel across all departments.

As part of the familiarisation programme, Minister Camille also conducted visits to the Montagne Posée Prison, the Low-Risk Facility, and the Bonne Espoire High-Security Prison. He met with prison officers to discuss staffing levels, working conditions, and operational frameworks.
The Ministry highlighted the government’s focus on rehabilitation, reintegration, and reducing repeat offending.The Minister was accompanied by Ombudsman George Emmanuel Robert, Roger Toussaint, and Justice Bernadin Renaud, Chairperson of the Human Rights Commission.
Their participation aimed to reinforce national commitments to human rights, transparency, and independent oversight within the correctional system.
