Seychelles Reaffirms Commitment to Inclusive Development at World Summit in Doha

Ambassador Moumou Highlights Seychelles’ Leadership in Social Progress and Climate Resilience

Doha, Qatar | November 6, 2025 — The Republic of Seychelles has reiterated its strong commitment to inclusive social development and sustainable growth during the Second World Summit for Social Development, held in Doha, Qatar, from 4 to 6 November 2025.

Representing Seychelles at the high-level meeting, Ambassador Gervais Moumou, the country’s Resident Ambassador to the United Arab Emirates, joined more than 14,000 delegates from governments, international organizations, civil society, academia, and the private sector.

The global summit served as a major platform to advance policies and partnerships promoting social inclusion, equality, and shared prosperity, in line with the global commitment to “leave no one behind.”

In his intervention, Ambassador Moumou underscored Seychelles’ long-standing achievements in building a social model based on equity, solidarity, and inclusion, despite the nation’s small size and limited resources.

He highlighted that Seychelles continues to lead the African continent with a Human Development Index (HDI) of 0.848, reflecting the country’s success in balancing economic growth with social welfare.

“Seychelles continues to demonstrate that small nations can achieve meaningful progress when social development is grounded in fairness and inclusivity,” Ambassador Moumou said.

The Ambassador also called for climate action to remain central to global development efforts, emphasizing the need for practical measures to enhance resilience in vulnerable nations. He urged the operationalisation of the Multidimensional Vulnerability Index (MVI) to better reflect the specific challenges faced by Small Island Developing States (SIDS).

Reaffirming Seychelles’ support for the Antigua and Barbuda Agenda for SIDS (ABAS) Agreement, Ambassador Moumou stressed that the vulnerabilities of island nations must remain a global priority. He expressed confidence that the international community would continue to strengthen cooperation through the full implementation of the MVI.

The Second World Summit for Social Development brought together policymakers and stakeholders from around the world to review progress since the first summit and to identify strategies for inclusive growth, social protection, and sustainable development.

Seychelles’ participation reinforces its ongoing leadership in championing social justice, environmental sustainability, and equitable development on the global stage.
